PBL with Real Life Community Projects
Omar has been a teacher at La Joya ISD since 2004 teaching 7th grade ELA, an 8th grade Reading and Writing Connection course and currently, 8th grade science. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator, class of 2019 and holds a Master's Degree in Educational Technology.
Omar integrates technology into his classroom giving his students the opportunity to create digital stories, expressing their creativity digitally and collaborate with others in written assignments. He is passionate about incorporating Project Based Learning into his teaching and his students demonstrate problem-solving skills while working to raise awareness on global issues.
He has been happily married to his wife Fely Garcia-López for 18 years, who is also an Apple Distinguished Educator for the Class of 2017, and has two intelligent and talented boys.
